Modeling the human heart
Project goals:
Create an anatomically accurate 3D model of the heart
Make a model compatible with WebGL and Unity
Animate the cardiac cycle
Communication Challenges:
Building a 3D model capable of demonstrating both the internal and external anatomy of the heart in a browser based environment
Ensure the heart is anatomically correct through content expert validation

To ensure the accuracy of the heart model it was extracted from raw CT scans using Horos.
The extracted model was brought into ZBrush, surface structures and lumenal structures were separated and cleaned up.
The model was further refined and corrected based on recommendations from anatomists at the University of Toronto
The final round revisions to the model were meant to ensure that the internal and external models related to one another correctly to match the muscular walls of the heart.
After revision by four different content experts, painted and textured in ZBrush
